The trailer for the crime Mai a Netflix Thriller web series came today, about a year after it was announced. Netflix has also revealed that the vengeance drama series would be available starting April 15th.
Sakshi Tanwar, who rose to prominence as an actress in a classic Indian television soap, will star in this thriller. She takes on the roles of a mother and a nurse. The story begins with a tragedy she observes.
Vivek Mushran, Wamiqa Gabbi, Anant Vidhaat, Raima Sen, Ankur Ratan, Prashant Narayan, Vaibhav Raj Gupta, and Seema Pahwa feature alongside her in Mai.
Atul Mongia, the showrunner and writer, makes his directing debut with the series. The co-director is Anshai Lal.
A multi-layered criminal thriller
Mai is a multi-layered crime drama in which Sakshi’s character gets drawn down a rabbit hole of violence, crime, and power as she attempts to learn the truth about her daughter’s death. Sakshi Tanwar appears in the series’ poster, appearing sad and tattered, with tears in her eyes and blood on her hands, standing in what appears to be a warehouse-like structure, according to Netflix.
Netflix’s promotional statement reads: “The Chaudhary family, which consists of two brothers who live in adjacent houses in the same colony with their wives and children, is at the centre of the series. Sheel, our heroine, is the younger brother’s bride. She lives and breathes for her immediate and extended family, ensuring that the entire household operates well. Sheel, on the other hand, is plunged deep into the realm of crime by a weird twist of fate and decision.”
“Mai pits the popular Indian television and Hindi film concept of the homely, nurturing, traditional Indian mother against the genuine existence of the Machiavellian world out there, compelling her and us to question our belief systems,” it continued.
Atul Mongia, the filmmaker, said that his real-life experiences inspired him to develop and compose Mai. Sakshi’s character is named after his mother, which is a coincidence.
